Abstract:"This study tested the hypothesis that longer delays between the formation and execution of an intention have a particularly adverse affect on HIV-associated prospective memory (ProM) impairment. Results from 49 persons with HIV and 36 demographically comparable seronegative controls revealed a significant interaction between ProM delay interval (2 min vs. 15 min) and HIV serostatus, which was marked by increased task substitution errors. Thus, HIV-infected persons experienced disproportionate difficulty maintaining an association between a cue and an intention over longer durations vis-a' -vis ongoing distraction. Findings support the notion that HIV-associated ProM impairment is driven by deficient executive control mechanisms. "
