Abstract:"Considering the prevalence of major depressive disorder (MDD) in hepatitis C (HCV) infection and the conditions' overlapping effects on frontotemporal systems, the current investigation aimed to examine their combined impact on neurocognitive functions. HCV-infected participants with a lifetime DSM-IV diagnosis of MDD (n = 39) reported significantly more cognitive complaints than 67 demographically similar HCV-infected individuals without MDD (p = 0.01; Cohen's d = 0.54). However, the two groups demonstrated comparable performance on a comprehensive battery of performance-based neurocognitive tests (ps > 0.10).
