Abstract:The present study evaluated the hypothesis that prospective memory (ProM) represents a unique cognitive construct in HIV infection. A confirmatory 4-factor structural equation model derived from 162 participants with HIV infection revealed that measures of ProM loaded on a unique factor, apart from tests of retrospective memory, executive functions, and motor skills. The fit of the model was found to be very good in absolute terms and better than several competing models. The results of this study lend additional evidence to the dissociability of ProM in HIV infection and are commensurate with evidence from previous studies in healthy adults.
