Abstract:Conclusions: Functional disability among HIV+ adults is still not well understood and is likely multifactorial in nature. This study supports the POMS as a brief screening tool for functional dependence among adults living with HIV, suggesting that self-appraisals of cognitive problems may help identify daily functioning impairments in this population. NP performance was related to cognitive capacity as measured by the UPSA-B, suggesting the UPSA-B as a potential brief screen for neurocognitive impairment in HIV+ adults. We cannot rule out self-report biases (complaints predict complaints), so external confirmation of everyday functional status would provide important verification.
