Abstract:Discussion: The observed interactions between HIV status and metabolic risk suggest that metabolic risk factors confer heightened risk of multidomain NCI in the context of HIV. Similar patterns of impairment among PLWH and HIV-uninfected individuals suggest that the effects of HIV infection on NCI are non-specific and that there may be equifinality in pathways to impairment. Early intervention upon metabolic risk may have implications for improving neurocognitive outcomes of PLWH.
