Abstract:Efforts to understand the biological processes that increase susceptibility to methamphetamine (meth) dependence have uncovered several putative genotypic variants. However, to date research in this area has been conducted primarily in Asian populations. The purpose of this study was to examine, among a population of meth dependent Caucasians, African- Americans and Hispanics, five putative single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) found to be associated with meth dependence in Asians. In addition, four novel SNPs were examined for potential association with meth dependence.
