Abstract:Conclusions: 1. HIV+/BD+ had significantly worse ART medication adherence than a demographically comparable group of HIV+/BD- participants 2. HIV+/BD+ persons who showed Worsened VL had extremely poor adherence rates, suggesting adherence may be the cause of worsening virologic control 3. The two HIV+/BD- individuals who had worsened virologic control still showed good ART adherence, possibly suggesting treatment resistance virus 4. HIV+/BD+ persons with the worst adherence evidenced the worst HIV disease outcomes 5. Identifying specialized interventions to improve adherence in this subpopulation is a public health priority as worse HIV disease coupled with high levels of risk behavior may lead to increased HIV transmission.
