Abstract:Higher VACS Index scores are associated with concurrent risk for lower NC functioning and worse daily functioning outcomes among non-Hispanics, but this association is non-significant in Hispanics. It is possible that other factors not currently measured by the VACS Index more strongly contribute to NC functioning than those currently included, such as markers of cerebrovascular disease and inflammation. Future studies should search for other culturally-relevant biomedical and psychosocial factors that may help to refine the VACS Index or create other indices that may be more sensitive at identifying risk for NC impairment among Hispanics with HIV.
