25 female and 35 male neurologically normal African American
adults, ranging in age from 18–64 years, were retested using the same,
expanded Halstead-Reitan battery used at baseline. Practice effects were observed on several of the tests but not on others. The test results of males
and females in equivalent age and education strata were roughly the same
at baseline and remained so at retest. In this study of normal African American
retest performance, comparisons were made with the retest performance
of age, education, and gender-matched normal White subjects. In
addition we report comparisons between HIV positive Whites and African
Americans, and examine the differences found between normal and HIV
positive African Americans. The study has provided the opportunity to document
test-retest reliability over an extended (one year) period of time and
to establish confidence intervals for determining meaningful change, stability,
or expected magnitude of practice effects, and base rates of expected
change. |
